On March 18th, we held our second Gardening and Food Resilience event.

Gardening expert Mark Butler explained how he and Meg have been growing food in their garden for 30 years! Their amazing garden, fed by a large water catchment system, supplies fresh food for two families throughout the year!

Ensuring food availability is critical as we face impacts of climate change and other disruptions that may interrupt food supplies in stores. Growing our own fruits and vegetables not only offers the health benefits of fresh produce, it helps us to improve our resilience in times of uncertainty. Luckily, we can grow food year-round In our West Marin bioregion!

This Zoom event featured a video tour of Mark Butler’s wonderful home garden in Bolinas, where he and Meg grow food that nourishes them throughout the year. On-the-ground presentation and demonstration provided valuable information about gardening strategies and techniques that are especially relevant during the winter and early spring season. Topics included:
-Winter cover crop techniques
-Water catchment system for summer irrigation
-Food storage from summer and fall harvests
